Youth Critics Club: NewsReel (YCC) provides the opportunity to screen a diverse selection of films and discuss topics on them and their relevance to world culture through a specially developed curriculum and occasional Q&A’s with filmmakers
NewsReel is a leg of YCC. In YCC teens will have meaningful conversations with people in the film industry, and each other discussing their perspective and understanding of the media they watch, and learning to break down and analyze the message of the content. The students will be producers and directors of the show learning pre- to post-production.
Arts & Sciences will help inspire youth to further advance their knowledge of science and technology and develop skills through educating them in the many technical areas it takes to make the world of media and film.
RiverReel: Teen Fest is a part of our international film festival RiverReel: Sound. Light. + Music. Motion. Students will be given the opportunity to collaborate in making a film and premiering it during the annual festival.
Our programs are year round and afterschool.
What The Grant Provides: Professionals to teach 6 students up to 5 workshops, and 3 laptops.
What We Need: 7 additional laptops, 20 more workshops, 1 camera, 1 boom mic, 1 lighting kit. Our teachers are providing an honorarium for their professional skills. This means we are running the program off the lowest budget possible, but without your fiscal support we can’t do it. CFS must raise $4,200 for computers including software needed for programs, $2,400 for teachers, and $3,500 for camera gear. If we reach our goal we will be able to expand classes to teach 40 students animation and video productions.
